sprof in lenny (libc 2.7-18) is currently completely non-functional
due to that bug.
I tried applying that patch to debian's glibc, and while it applies
cleanly, and solves the immediate issue, I then get:

On x86_64, mostly debian etch. After upgrading libc6 to unstable, I
can no longer compile anything.
