You need to tell the CD writter to put the iso image on the CD without
putting a filesystem around it. How you do that depends on the burning
software. Some lame software might not even do it. [[Trying hard not to

Thanks for your assistance, but (alas), I still require more expert
insight. As promised last week, I tried again on Monday (yesterday)
with a new CD "boot disc", but this failed too, as described in the
following mail message that I forwarded to the person who created the
CD for me.
