I have followed an installation guide written by Niel

I have found that mount works well enough to cause problems and to deceive
the operator. Avoid.

After a freeze of the Hurd on a newbie install forcing a power cycle, I
get errors about needing to run fsck. What's the syntax to run it on my
root partition, which in Linux would be referred to as /dev/hdc1 and
elsewhere is referred to as (hd0,0) and elsewhere is referred to as hd2s1?
Thanks!
I've just attempted to install the Hurd, and after running
"native-install" the second time was instructed to add swap to
/etc/fstab. How do I refer to my swap partition? Here's my partition
table as I defined it in cfdisk from Linux:
/dev/hdc1 200MB /
/dev/hdc5 1200MB /usr
/dev/hdc6
I understand that there are some design flaws in the gnumach kernel
(which affect speed, among perhaps other things), and the general idea
is to move the Hurd to the L4 kernel. Any comments on the status of that
move?
Thanks!

I saw something in the mail archives that the
"grub>module=/boot/bootserver.gz" method is deprecated. Can anyone shed
light on what I'm supposed to be doing instead? (I'm a newbie - context
to this question can be found in my notes at
http://faculty.acu.edu/~westk/A_Beginners_Second_Attempt_to_
I've tried a couple of times to install the Hurd on a clean drive. I've
experienced several hard freezes, requiring the power to be cycled.
I expected the Hurd to be more resilient against such lockups, but
before I assume it's not, I thought I'd better wait and see if I'm just
too inexperience
I'm new to the Hurd, and have written my experiences installing it at:
http://faculty.acu.edu/~westk/A_Beginners_Attempt_to_Install_the_Hurd.html
and
http://faculty.acu.edu/~westk/A_Beginners_Second_Attempt_to_Install_the_Hurd.html
in case anyone's interested. The first document is pretty rambling
