A good practice is to use settrans -ap so that you actually attempt the
translator command line right then. This checks your option

The best solution, of course, is fixing ext2fs sothe filesystem
will not be corrupted. If someone can easily reproduce this,
please tell me so I can fix this.
Crash the file-system during writes.
w installs - so next task is to reconfigure my NIC which is
lost in the selfmade kernel :-)

Yes, this is most likely a corrupt
/hurd looks fine:

So i will reinstall the system and start from a fresh (never crashed :-)
filesystem.
Cute, you could check if any translators got attached to /hurd/ext2fs
and/or /hurd/ext2fs.static by accident. But oh well...

Check the permissions on /hurd.
