You should know that HP is debian friendly (they still wont offer
support though), but they do work with debian internally and informally
test.
I use DELL big baddass servers and smaller (hwIDE-RAID Barracuda arrays)
in HP and ive never had a problem at all...

Compaq do not support Debian, what binaries Compaq have released are rpms.
Indeed for the older kit the only rpms are for 6.2 and have not been
updated, so thier support is shocking, Dell seem better. I dont have
problems running Debian on Compaq hardware raid (3200s) and while the

We have a Compaq Proliant DL320 (PIII @ 1266MHz) running Debian Woody
and amanda acting as a backup server, and it runs pretty well. I didn't
managed with the Compaq's Agents since I don't need much hardware
diagnostics, but however I'd prefer using lm_sensor instead of the
provided SuSE/RedHat rpm
