However I have to correct that as well, the problem seems to occur only with
icq contacts. However I could not yet determine a rule with which contacts it

I can confirm that both methods of forcing the X server to use vt7 fixes
(or works around) the keyboard not working sometimes problem. The
problem seems to be due to a race condition during the boot process.

Exactly the same thing has happened to me!
I even tried XFce and that didn't work too, after a normal KDM boot up.
BTW, I don't have a USB keyboard.
The problem occurs on my girlfriend's computer, but less often.
I suspect the initial start up of KDM is causing the problem.

You can't. Unless you manually compile the theme manager. I'm not sure that
can be done with KDE 3.2. I don't believe it can. You could temporarily
