apt tool works perfectly - the package developers don't. The fear of removing packages by dist-upgrade is absolutely justified by a long term experience with SID. > -Original Message- > From: Pierre Habouzit [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Thursday, June 01, 2006 12:00 AM > To: debia

Dead keys not working in KDE - Solved

2006-04-23 Thread Žáček Kryštof
I finally have noticed that during the dist-upgrade something screwed mu /etc/environment file. As a result the locale configuration has fallen back to "POSIX" and that affected the dead keys functionality in KDE apps. So I did: dpkg-reconfigure localeconf rebooted, and now everything works fi

Yes, I did install the xkb-data. Without it it was not be possible to configure the KDE keyboard layouts. I repeat that for GTK apps (even under KDE) the (ˇ) key works fine. The problem is with KDE apps an OpenOffice. > -Original Message- > From: Dietz Proepper [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED

Nice but no bugs have been fixed from my point of view. - jumping forward with arrow keys still skips strangely back - movie with subtitles freezes kaffeine UI when after few seeks - yet another new GUI when I got used to the previous one (oh my!). The developers would do better fixing bugs. De

Konqueror browser dead slow

Hi, Today I upgraded to new kernel (2.6.16) in Debian (up-to-date SID). The Konqueror nearly stopped responding on http://lidovky.zpravy.cz (maybe they just added some more animated/transparent GIFs or so). The page loads quickly, but then it is impossible to scroll it or select a text on it. X

Video under Linux - mess and frustration

2006-03-24 Thread Žáček Kryštof
My few cents... Playing video under Linux is a frustrating experience. There is a bunch of players available - mplayer, Kaffeine, KPlayer, KMPlayer, Xine, Totem, Kaboodle, Noatun ... Each of them has its own problems: some support subtitles, some crash on some files, some freeze on seeking, so

I second to that. Kaffeine is one of the most frustrating packages I came across under Linux: it would be such a nice piece of software if it only worked. The last version that was in a relatively good shape was 0.6.x. Since then it is really so crappy. And this this not the gstreamer's fault -

All false. Krita is not yet another simplistic paint programm. It has the potential to replace GIMP for those who are irritated by the archane, unusable and slow GIMP gtk interface and deaf ears of GIMP developers. Krita already supports CMYK, layers, ... you name it. It has modern interface, w

False. This has changed recently in SID. You must set SUID at least on the /usr/bin/cdrecord.mmap otherwise any burning unser 2.6.12 will fail regardless on permissions set on the device. Nasty, stupid but reality. > -Original Message- > From: LeVA [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Sun
