krfb_httpd seems only to go mad after the first krdc connection. Why does
krfb feel it necessary to start krfb_httpd anyway? Personally I can live
without a http based VNC client.

4 is going to address this problem by separating the data
holding parts of the PIM applications into a separate server. That way
kopete won't need to start kmail, it will just attach to the server in
exactly the same way kmail/kabc itself will.

nscd acts as a nice root-priviliged buffer
between getpwnam() calls and ldap. With nscd not running normal users are
unable to do lookups ("getent passwd" will confirm), but once nscd is running
everthing seems to be hunky dory.
