OK, I decided to do an apt-get dist-upgrade, but I ran into problems in starting X. :( I copied and pasted a copy of my apt-get logs in the bottom of the e-mail. I did not see any errors. When I use "startx" command (I boot up Linux into text mode; no GUI), startx just hangs. I tried with two di

Hello! I am still using KDE v3.3.2 on my Debian (Kernel 2.6.12-K7) box. I would like to upgrade to 3.4 if possible, but I was told that it is not ready weeks ago. Is it still not ready? I had these dependencies: # apt-get upgrade Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done T

How do I upgrade non-KDE stuff?

2005-08-25 Thread Phillip Pi
Hello! I do apt-get update and upgrade daily to get the latest updates. Recently I was also hit by the KDE v3.4 bug (lost KDE menus) and had to reinstall a KDE component (dpgk -i ./kdelibs-data_3.3.2-6.1_all.deb) manually. See http://tinyurl.com/d7yvm or http://groups-beta.google.com/group/linux

Launching KPPP from desktop with root loses dsktop icons and wallpapers...

2005-02-04 Thread Phillip Pi
Hello! I placed KDE v3.3.1's KPPP icon on my desktop on my Debian v3.1 box (Kernel 2.6.8). I also configured it to ask for my root password since it requires root to use it. Once I successfully connect to my ISP, I notice my desktop icons and background wallpaper start disappearing to blackness. I
