XX seconds (I set it to one second)
2- If you have Kmix set to autostart (Or, I suppose if you are saving
the session), check to see if you have 'Restore volumes at Login' set.

This is most likely because of 'a big alsa update' between 2.6.12 and
2.6.15. The simple solution is to start playing an audio file, run
alsamixer from the command line, and try cranking up and un-muting the

Actually the snd modules are loaded during booting. They are there before I
log into KDE.

I had this problem too. Nothing I could do could fix it. I then solved
it by using a different sound card.
