If I may also comment, this feature activates (on my system anyway)
if XINE is playing while Konqueror is open. After some 15 seconds, up
pop all the little shortcut-letters. This is especially annoying if
I'm typing in a form, because the active keys take precedence

this off.
I can't find it in the GUI either, but apparently, from what has been said
In konqueror, if I hold the control key for a long time there are
alphabets displayed all over the webpage. The letters are displayed in
square yellow boxes.
What are these alphabets? Are they useful in any way or is it a bug? If
it is a feature, where is it documented?

Uh, so that you can use the keyboard instead of the mouse? If you are browsing
a site, and you want to enter a link, you simply press ctrl, and the link
gets a letter, you press the letter, and there you go. It's not a bug.
