As the output looked the same I felt I had to check if the newly installed 2.6.14-4 worked, and it didn't! So, I dug out an old yaird version... ii yaird 0.0.11-12 Yet Another mkInitRD Now it works (2.6.14-5)! So, this appears to be either a yaird bug or a linux-image <-> yaird
