PAE is now enabled for the Xen flavour. As I understand it, this bug
is only believed to exist in non-PAE builds. I cannot reproduce w/
2.6.18.dfsg.1-10. Setting the fixed version as 2.6.18.dfsg.1-9, since
that is the first upload of the PAE-enabled version.

hey Marco,
I read up on udev rule creation and did some testing on another
machine (sym53c8xx driver), and I think this simple patch would do
what we want.
Though it was mentioned in this report that the ips and dpt_i2o
drivers may also require a workaround, that is not the case in any of

I could reproduce w/ 2.6.17-7 and 2.6.18-8 but not with
2.6.18.dfsg.1-10. I'm pretty sure that this was fixed by one of the
cciss backports i did in -9 (though I didn't test it explicitly), so
marking as closed in that version.

Dear kernel team,
not only because of an upcoming talk on the status of etch, but also
out of genuine interest and the desire to improve things, I am
rather interested in what's blocking etch right now. From what I've

I still reckon 'being unable to do anything on the machine' as a critical bug.
Thanks.

Hello!
I just wanted to mention that the bug disussed here still exists on my
box using the kernel from
http://people.debian.org/~nobse/kernel/linux-2.6/i386/
(in my case linux-image-2.6.18-4-k7_2.6.18-9_i386.deb)
Here the output from dmesg:

The driver for ati sb600 IDE controller has bugs.
It doesn't set the PATA in proper DMA mode.
When use 40-pin cable for PATA disk, sometimes, bad CRC makes the system
fail to boot with kernel panic. The kernel will report:
.
Package: linux-image
Version: 2.6.18-3-486
I failed to install Etch (i386 NETINST Binary-1 20070211) on the ati
sb600 chipset platform if I set the SATA to legacy IDE mode in the
system bios.
It prompts:
ata3: sata link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 300)
ata3.00: qc timeout (cmd 0xec)
ata3.0
Package: kernel
Version: 2.6.18-3-486
Severity: normal

The driver for ati sb600 IDE controller has bug.
SB600 ide controller has only one channel. Here is the patch:
--- drivers/ide/pci/atiixp.c.orig 2007-02-15 13:12:43.0
+0800
+++ drivers/ide/pci/atiixp.c2007-0
Dear Jurij,
thank you very much. modprobe works fine without an error. But I could
not access the interface. iwconfig does not show the capabilities of the
interface.
Best regards
