I can confirm that the bug is gone with "linux-image-4.9.0-5-amd64", tested
with a system
which was affected before.

I did some further testing with older kernel versions from
snapshot.debian.org to identify from when on the problem occurs and
discovered 2 things:
1) The problem does not necessarily occur every single time. For some of
the affected kernel versions, I needed two or three attempts (with

I initially reported this in #884001 but it looks like this bug is more close to
what I see. I'm using Debian stable with security upgrades and got this issue
after upgrading from 4.9.
