So the story goes on:
1. After doing a successfull mkfs.ext3 under
kernel-image-2.4.18-1-686-smp
the problem was not reproducible under any of the other kernels.
(not bf24, my kernel 2.4.27). This is strange because it oopsed
3 times before. (2
So I've found another system with SMART2 which is being tested now.
1. Step: Another kernel (2.4.27 with ctx-patch) is working ok until
doing a mkfs.ext3 on a big drive in /dev/ida/c0d0pxx
Original d.o. kernel of stabel is also making oopses.
Installed kernel-image-2.4.18-1-686-smp and it

Further tests on my systems have shown that
the oops is caused on loading the SMART2 part.
I've compiled a kernel without it, and so far
it's running ...
The bad thing about this is that neither I can
test the SMART2 part nor such a controller is
available to me any longer.
