Additional information, as noticed by the kind people on #debian-devel:
This is only an issue because I'm using a custom kernel, which has fbcon
as a module. Debian kernels should not be affected, which also explains
why this issue wasn't reported earlier.

Yesterday, when upgrading an old xen installation to testing, I saw
similar kernel panics. I didn't take screen shots, so I can't tell if it
was really the same bug, bug it also panicked during startup of the
