Package: src:linux Version: 3.16.7-ckt9-3~deb8u1 Severity: important If I do a shutdown from MATE, my system does the following: * MATE closes as expected * within a couple of seconds the display switches off (all OK so far) * then very shortly after that I hear at least some of my disks spinning down (as I'd expect) * However my CPU and power fans continue to spin, and my power LED remains on.
I would expect the system to power off at this point. To power off, I have to press and hold the power button for a few seconds. I can't see any kernel messages at this point because by this stage the graphics card has switched off. I can reboot normally, and I can also press the RESET button and boot fine once the shutdown process has hung in the described not-quite-off state. This problem is intermittent, but seems much more likely to occur if shutting down after a cold boot than it is if shutting down having rebooted the machine. Have previously had this enabled in /etc/hdparm.conf, around the time I started to notice this issue: /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD30EZRX-00SPEB0_WD-WCC4EHHH3TH7 { spindown_time = 240 } /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD30EZRX-00SPEB0_WD-WCC4ENVNFAV0 { spindown_time = 240 } /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD20EARX-00ZUDB0_WD-WCC1H0246293 { spindown_time = 240 } I've now commented them out but it's still giving me problems, so I doubt those spindown_times have caused the problem but thought I'd mention it in case anyone disagrees (I'm unsure if they continue to take effect across cold boots). This is Debian Jessie, installed from scratch. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 3.16.0-4-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.8.4 (Debian 4.8.4-1) ) #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt9-3~deb8u1 (2015-04-24) ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.16.0-4-amd64 root=/dev/mapper/oak-debian ro ** Not tainted ** Kernel log: [ 8.363510] ACPI: If an ACPI driver is available for this device, you should use it instead of the native driver [ 8.363565] ACPI Warning: SystemIO range 0x0000000000000500-0x000000000000052f conflicts with OpRegion 0x0000000000000500-0x000000000000053f (\GPS0) (20140424/utaddress-258) [ 8.363693] ACPI: If an ACPI driver is available for this device, you should use it instead of the native driver [ 8.363748] lpc_ich: Resource conflict(s) found affecting gpio_ich [ 8.418058] ACPI Warning: SystemIO range 0x0000000000000400-0x000000000000041f conflicts with OpRegion 0x0000000000000400-0x000000000000040f (\SMRG) (20140424/utaddress-258) [ 8.418188] ACPI: If an ACPI driver is available for this device, you should use it instead of the native driver [ 8.533746] input: PC Speaker as /devices/platform/pcspkr/input/input10 [ 8.673093] sound hdaudioC0D0: autoconfig: line_outs=4 (0x14/0x15/0x16/0x17/0x0) type:line [ 8.673151] sound hdaudioC0D0: speaker_outs=0 (0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0) [ 8.673196] sound hdaudioC0D0: hp_outs=1 (0x1b/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0) [ 8.673240] sound hdaudioC0D0: mono: mono_out=0x0 [ 8.673283] sound hdaudioC0D0: dig-out=0x11/0x1e [ 8.673326] sound hdaudioC0D0: inputs: [ 8.673369] sound hdaudioC0D0: Front Mic=0x19 [ 8.673412] sound hdaudioC0D0: Rear Mic=0x18 [ 8.673454] sound hdaudioC0D0: Line=0x1a [ 8.685084] input: HDA Digital PCBeep as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/hdaudioC0D0/input11 [ 8.685307] input: HDA Intel Front Mic as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input12 [ 8.685392] input: HDA Intel Rear Mic as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input13 [ 8.685476] input: HDA Intel Line as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input14 [ 8.685560] input: HDA Intel Line Out Front as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input15 [ 8.685645] input: HDA Intel Line Out Surround as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input16 [ 8.685730] input: HDA Intel Line Out CLFE as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input17 [ 8.685815] input: HDA Intel Line Out Side as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input18 [ 8.685900] input: HDA Intel Front Headphone as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input19 [ 8.874793] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810 [ 8.943573] wmi: Mapper loaded [ 9.060348] nouveau [ DEVICE][0000:01:00.0] BOOT0 : 0x298200a2 [ 9.060396] nouveau [ DEVICE][0000:01:00.0] Chipset: G98 (NV98) [ 9.060440] nouveau [ DEVICE][0000:01:00.0] Family : NV50 [ 9.060505] nouveau [ VBIOS][0000:01:00.0] checking PRAMIN for image...
