Unfortunately, this is to be expected. As the kernel configuration was changed, the layout of the symbols shifted as well, so the kernel modules from the archive can no longer be used. The real workaround would be to build a CD image, including both the new kernel and new module packages, however I've never done that. See also bug 289083, the submitter seems
to be hitting the same problem but manages to get to the keyboard selection menu (using backslash symbol as Enter). You can also install using serial console, which is not affected. Hopefully, this will be fixed before the release.
