This problem was solved with 2.6.15, and continues to work in 2.6.16,
so I figure it's ok to close the bugreport.

can you please add the output of lsmod from both 2.6.12 and 2.6.14?
I suspect yaird is loading the ide_generic module before the
mainboard-specific one. If this is the case, please edit
/etc/yaird/Default.cfg
in the section CONFIG, add
MODULE ide-core

I have 2.6.12 and 2.6.14 (686 P4) installed on this machine. If I boot back into
2.6.12 DMA is on for /dev/hda. It is off in 2.6.14 and will not enable:
