Hi,
So far I've figured out that the problem arises when the kernel is
built with latest gcc. CD-ROM on my SS20 works fine, if kernel is
built with gcc 4.0.

The isofs module should be available in the initrd. Is it not?
It is. The errors I get in dmesg when trying to mount CD-ROM look like
that:
It's present for sparc64 but missing for sparc32 - fro 20061017
netinst image.
