I think I misunderstood the bug, though.

Having read through the full bug log, I understand that the intended
effect of 'lvconvert --merge' is that the origin LV's content is set
equal to that of the snapshot LV (which is removed).  Instead, the
origin LV ends up broken but the snapshot LV remains intact.  If this
understanding is correct, there is no (unintended) data loss.  Further,
this doesn't seem to be a kernel bug; it sounds like lvconvert is not
handling the missing functionality correctly.

I could consider it as a wishlist bug requesting addition of the
snapshot merge feature in squeeze, but since it doesn't meet the
criteria for a stable update I would then close it.
