dpkg-buildpackage and debian/rules should stay away from enabling or disabling ccache/distcc. It is your responsibility, not that of the packaging to enable the use of ccache/distcc. I personally enable ccache permanently like so: $ grep ccache ~/.* /home/pabs/.bashrc:export PATH="/usr/lib/ccache
