After purging and reinstalling all openoffice.org packages,
things work fine again. I'm putting the severity back to normal,
but I'm not closing the bug, as it may still contain information
to you, but I leave that for you to decide. It works for me now.

First, during the upgrade, my old /etc/openoffice1.1 directory was not
deleted. I guess I have not made a --purge to delete it, but I'm
wondering if it would anyway.
Second, my openoffice.conf is executable. Is this still the case in the
reassign 206607 openoffice.org-debian-files

This bug belongs not to ooo-bin, but to ooo-debian-files, as that
package installs /usr/lib/mime/packages/openoffice.org-debian-files
If you add the below line to this file, it should work (untested):
