A've got a guess. Possible reason of tiny-font problem is bad interaction with gconf2. I normally don't use it, but it is installed here to satisfy some dependences, and I've seen situation when after gconf daemon is started, I get HUGE fonts on newly-started KDE apps. This happens because gcong
