the OF on oldworld macs is so fragile things would break all the time. say
the words "default catch" and developers shudder. ;) there are workarounds
galore and some only apply to a specific computer model.

I just filed a bug report against w3m (#57121), which uses libgc4,
but rumor has it that the problem is actually with libgc4, which
is apparently broken on PowerPC.
Basically, w3m segfaults on startup:

I installed on a 7200 last week without a hitch. Not using the
available version of the installer, though. Expect a new one very,
very soon.

I'm attempting install on a Beige G3 desktop with an xrl8 466mhz cpu. It has an
IDE drive, a scsi-2 drive, and a ultra2W on a pci controller. I've been trying
to use BootX, which cant find the livefilesysytem and then drops me into the
Redhat installer which can't find the packages to install. I ha

OldWorld machines do have HFS support, but it's somewhat bogus.
Basically, it works as long as you f

for the past month ive been trying to get various dists of debian ppc
to properly boot on a ppc 7200. every time that i boot the kernel
(ive tried sid and potato) it doesnt recognize the scsi device. as you
probably know its pretty hard to install the base os without a disk.

Hello,
I was wondering if there is any information out there about booting the
potato floppies using open-firmware on a powermac?
I have a UMAX S900 (clone 9500 motherboard) and I would love to install
debian linux on it. I am able to access the OF prompt through the serial
port from my intel lin
No, at this time it can't be done. Debian will probably support using
the mkLinux kernel at some point, but that's not what you mean; the
monolithic kernel will not support NuBus for a long time, if ever.

Will Debian run on the PowerMac 6100/66? I used to run mkLinux on it but
would like to use the IPChains features in Kernel 2.2. Has anyone
successfully installed and run Debian on this powermac? if so, please
provide me with some instructions on how.
Thanks in advance,
