It installed just fine once I figured out which files to make into
floppy images. At the end of the first phase of the install, there are 3
options for booting: Quik, make floppies, use existing boot. I had

2.2.19, is that correct? I thought they were using 2.4 now??
Also, the dpkg output says xfree86-common 4.1.0-16 but I don't get a
xfree86.log.0 in /var/log and the xdm.log still shows 3.3.6. Any clue
there?

kernel version is independent of distribution version. You can run
Debian 3.0 on top of either a 2.2 or a 2.4

A quick update that I just realized. When I try to do apt-get install
konsole I was getting a dependency error on xutils. I just ran apt-get
install xutils and it is moving along so I may be on the right path for
that problem!!
