Maybe as user you're not allowed to start X ? You can use login managers such
as xdm, gdm or kdm for this.

I have upgraded the drm-trunk-modules and I am getting the exact same
problem, ie. X begins to load and then crashes to console...even with
your X config., and its giving the same error.
