Hey guys,
I am confused as to what power management technology I should be using. When I
installed debian etch on this powerpc Apple PowerBook, apm was used as default.
Things are working great here and I have no complaints. However, I understand
there is also ACPI, which is newer.
Are there

Hey everyone,
Has anybody tried to use initng on a powerpc debian system? Currently I'm
running Debian Etch 4.0r1 and would like to experiment with initng.
But before diving into it, I wanted the opinions of others.
* Is it quite stable in its current form?
* Does it really cut the boot time
thanks for the info. It looks like I'm using the same graphics card as well.

Hey there,
Thanks for the response. It is good to know that this is not a debian specific
issue.
* As for my graphics card, I am using an ATI chip. This is a fairly old
PowerBook G4.
* Kernel Version: 2.16.18.4-powerpc
I will definitely try to do a bit more research about the backlight curve
Thank you for all your help!
I guess I'll live with this. I will try reading some more on this issue. Thank's

Thank you!
I did check out pommed and it requires kernel 2.6.22 I think so I will have to
compile that and then compile pommed from source. I rather not move into
unstable just yet.

If you have the sysfs interface with radeon card, you can try to look
in /sys/class/backlight/radeonbl0/
Especially check for max_brightness and actual_brightness. If you want,
you can manually adjust it using:
echo 127 /sys/class/backlight/radeonbl0/brightness

I think your system uses the new SysFS Brightness interface which has
128 or maybe 256 brightness steps on your system. You could check this
with the program Powerprefs, go to the display page (light bulb) and
check which Driver is currently active in pbbuttonsd to control the
display
Hey guys,
I have Debian 'etch' installed on this system and my God it is a beautiful
system. It gives life back into this old baby. No major issues at all. Great job
by the developers!
However, I have a small issue with the brightness level. I had OpenBSD (4.1) and
Mac OS X (10.4) installed at
I just recently installed etch on my laptop as well. Although this one is a
PowerBook G4. Sound worked out of the box without configuring. However, I did
have the issue of sound on my desktop with etch. So I just ran the following
commands.

Hey Guys,
Just installed Debian etch and it's working great! Only issue is with Midnight
Commander. Debian has automatically detected the F1-F6 keys in the PowerBook as
brightness +/-, volume +/-, numlock, and mute, respectively. Now, I can't seem
to use MidnightCommander F1-F6 since they are
Thanks for the quick response.
That did the trick! I just simply installed it from aptitude and it works as
expected. Thanks!

Another issue that I had.
How I do copy and paste between applications and terminal windows? With PC and
full sized keyboard, I simply use 'Shift + Insert'. Do you have any suggestions
as to how it would work in a PowerBook keyboard (I can't seem to find and
insert key).

I currently use the mouseemu package so I will go ahead and take your
suggestions and apply it there.
Thanks again!
