B.
Two months ago I had the same problem. It's not a kernel version
problem, just a kernel .config problem. That said, I'm not sure I
remember correctly the solution (:-(), anyway try to compile agpgart and
r128 dri support as modules.

I would still say this is a problem with your sound module. /dev/dsp
always exists (unless you use devfs). Does your sound card get
initialized at boot (try dmesg). Have you confgured arts correctly?

I have a firewire CD-RW and it works perfectly. Initially I used to
compile these options as modules and it was a little bit unstable, now I
have them compil

Sorry if I'm late :-)
Here is my XF86Config-4 file.
Just one note. Do not launch "startx -- -layout ExternalLcd" if the
powerbook isn't physically connected to the external monitor
nitor ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) and it works
perfectly. I think you need to set up a second Screen section on
XF86Config-4 specifying the correct HSync and VSync.
Previously I used the same Screen configuration and what I got was a
fuzzy display.

Isn't C the key to b
I'd like to be able to boot from an external FireWire cdrom directly
from openfirmware.
Is it possible?
What is the syntax for yaboot, or which shortcat do I have to use?
(I have a pismo and the external cd is a LaCIE cd-rw)
Thanks
