Hi,
I'm writting to this list since I can't find any useful answer
anywhere else. If you anyone has ever replaced a Mac hard drive, I
would use some advice.
I own a G3 iBook (dual USB, 750 MHz) and the hard drive died a few
days ago. It started doing clicking sounds, then The computer wouldn't

Why don't you use benh's 2.6.3/4 kernel ?
I'm using it and everything is fine.
Thanks, it works fine. I can now use my ipod :) and still suspend/resume
my ibook.
But I had to switch to alsa, and the volume control is not geting loud
enough. Even at
maximum volume, the sound stays low.

Hi all,
I am running sid and just installed Sven's 2.4.25 kernel (package
kernel-image-2.4.25-powerpc-pmac) on my iBook2. It works perfectly
with one unfortunate exception: the laptop does not wake up from suspend
mode when I re-open the lid. The monitor displays only a pattern of

Hi,
I also experienced problems with sawfish.
- The sound events used to make it hang, I don't
know if it was corrected since I deactivated all
sounds.
- Sometimes, the menu stops poping up.
Instead of swithching wm, you can restart sawfish
with
sawfish-client -c restart

Hi,
I noticed several times while compiling on a PC a
program perfectly running on my ibook that it
would segfault because of a division by zero.
It seems to me that the ppc doesn't trigger an
error when a division by zero while x86 does. Can
anyone comment on this - what is going on when

Do the video players not use XvMC if it exists ?
I haven't seen any player explicitly mention supporting it, but maybe
they just keep it secret.
You're right, mplayer doesn't use XvMC, it's easy to find out since the
library headers aren't included in the code.
Browsing threw mplayer

eject: unable to open '/dev/cdrom'
you could try
eject /cdrom -v
the -v switch will describe in detail all the steps performed to eject
the device.
if it doesn't work, you have to add to /etc/fstab the correct device for
your cd drive, mine is
/dev/hdb /cdrom
Hi all,
Watching a DVD works using ogle on my 700 MHz Ibook, ogle displays an

the screen travellings.
Anyway here's the problem. after having suspended the ibook, on wake up,

Being a freedom-of-software fanatic, I do not allow myself to have any
non-free software on any of my computers, so I'm wondering,
will I be able to get it working with a DebianPPC distro in a reasonable

What troubles me most is the Radeon M 9k card, that I've heard is not

Typical DRI lockup. :) So it seems the M6 is broken with no workaround
right now. Users with such a chip will have to wait until this is fixed
or try to fix it themselves.
Do you have a good pointer on where to get started if I want to fix it
myself ? I am not saying I will do it, I have

These are once again most interesting for Radeon users. The 3D driver is
now based on Mesa 4.0.x and uses the chip's TCL unit for great
performance. Note that the M6 doesn't have a TCL unit and may not work
with these
