contributors for the PowerPC part of it works for IBM, I think, so
maybe it will work on your machine too.
I believe it's a full re-write.

is a G4 466 desktop (Digital Audio is the nickname) and uses
tumbler. Alsa works fine on it. I'm not sure about beep. What is that
exactly and how would I test it?

Maybe for that version the old kernel was also an initrd kernel, in
which case, yes. In my example, my previous kernel was not an initrd

you could do what I did and comment out the following line (#427) in
/usr/share/gnucash/guile-modules/gnucash/main.scm:
