Yes - PPC chips (up to the 970) could operate in either mode - so they
switched modes as needed. Really neat trick, but broke on the G5. So
they've done it a different way now (for G5s at least).

I'm using this on my ibook2 (500mhz icebook) fine. Haven't tested
firewire again yet, but it works better than on my desktop (P4) - which
just switches off whenever i plug a firewire device in. been meaning to
debug that

either upgrade your packages, or make sure that /dev/pts is being
mounted (type devpts) from /etc/fstab
that should remove the need for the (now depricated) devfs.

but when I was trying tdfx on powerpc (few years ago now,
maybe 2 or 2.5) there were endianness issues so all the characters came
out kinda mangled - was funny, but not useful. Hopefully things have

I've got a patch that's a combined 2.4.21-ben2-xfs, which may help as a
starting point. It wasn't that bad merging the two, I just haven't
gotten around to 2.4.22 yet (honors supervisors want to see work :)

i got teh same setup, with same kernel (and using the trunk DRI
modules).
had to set this for my kernel in yaboot.conf:

performance comparisons (to ext2 and NTFS).
XFS also stores data on disk in your native byteorder :) (although they
found that the overhead of switching was minimal anyway)

YMMV - as the Voodoo 3 2000 with a Mac ROM will not work under linux with
accellerated video. You get a strange mix up of graphics that looks almost
like soime kind of byte order issue.
