Debian on G5 1.6 SP and on dual G5 Xserves

2005-05-18 Thread Wesley Smith
Hi, I was wondering what the possibilities were for installing debian for both a 1.6G G5 SP tower and DP G5 xserves on exetrnal firewire HDs. I'd like to set things up so that I can plug the HD into the tower and have it boot from that disk into debian. I'd also like to be able to do the same th

Sorry to keep posting to the list like this, but I was wondering if anyone had encountered a problem while installing debian from CD on a g5 where their keyboard no longer worked. After yaboot loads and I get the white screen where I need to type some things in, my keyboard and mouse no longer wor

debian ppc on g5 2nd SATA disc

2005-05-30 Thread Wesley Smith
Hi, I've installed debian on a second G5 disc and am trying to follow the February thread about getting it to boot. I ran into exactly the same situation as Pedro where I get a yaboot menu, type in 'l', and get the graphical 'option' menu back. In any case, my question regards mounting the parti

Right. That's what I gathered from the thread. What I don't know how to do us access the config file and set the path. i.e. How do I mount the partition? thanks, wes On 5/30/05, Benjamin Herrenschmidt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > On Mon, 2005-05-30 at 21:59 -0700, Wesley

I'm curious as to how it was done by someone else on this list back in February. By what they wrote in the thread, they seemed to be able to access the yaboot.conf from a shell obtained from the installer after mounting the drive. I need to do the same thing on my system since I installed debian

I'm using a G5. I can get to the yaboot menu, but no further. To get further, I have to edit yaboot.conf. Is there a way to access it from the menu? Otherwise, are there any other techniques besides using a live Ubuntu disc? thanks, wes On 5/31/05, Mike S <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrot

You're right that I don't need to do the source thing. I do have a question about "chroot /mnt/ur.sdb3.mnt.pt /usr/sbin/ybin" however. By doing this command, will ybin now access the modified yaboot.conf in sdb3? What is it that chroot is doing in this command? I realize this is a basic questio
