Hi,

I've recently got hold of an IBM Power Series 600, aka IBM 6030.

>From what I can make out it's a rare form of the RS/6000 (prep) desktop
machines. It's based I think on a PowerPC 603 and unusually has 4 PCMCIA
slots. There's an NCR810 on board and also an S3 Vision864. It's in
quite a nifty 'bookshelf' case and has S-video and composite video outs.

I notice that it is mentioned by name in the 'supported hardware' for
Debian, but I've had no luck in getting it to boot successfully. I've
tried pretty much all the various kernels avaiable out there but none of
them are for this particular machine. Most boot OK, except none of them
detect the SCSI controller. The kernel seems to find a PCI bus but no
devices on it. The debian boot disks are no exception.

My question is whether anyone else has had any experience with these
machines? There is basically nothing out there about them - in fact most
of the RS/6000 people I've contacted question whether it exists at all!

Is it possible that the SCSI controller is addressed via the PCMCIA bus?

I'd be grateful for any advice / pointers.

James
