Chris, I do insert the floppy before booting, but it goes unrecognized unless I use the cmd-opt-p-r key combination after the reboot chord. It would be normal to expect it to eject a non-bootable disk, but I've never seen the machine eject the disk except as part of the net install procedure

I've figured out either the answer or a superstitious work around. If this is not "forcing" a boot from floppy, then it might be nice to link to an explanation or explain in the manual itself what is really happening. The 7600 I have won't boot from the floppy unless cmd-opt-p-r (alt-apple-p
