I have the same exact computer and the problem subsided after I switched kernels. The kernel I use is from ppckernel.org, it is one of the "specialized" kernels, the 2.4 stable one optimized for the ibook. I strongly recommend obtaining the config file for the 2.4 kernel and then obtaining the
