Why is this against Debian policy? I am perhaps not familiar enough with it, I'd appreciate a further explanation. > That would seem to be Python's problem, not Debian's. Let me restate: I am asking Debian to provide a python2.4 version of the wx python bindings, because it has the resources to do so. Other packages seem to be coping just fine. I attached a list of python packages for which there is a 2.3 and 2.4 version available on unstable; these are all packages with compiled extensions, I omitted pure-python (architecture all) packages; the list would be far longer otherwise. The lists comprises of no less than 92 packages. Are you suggesting that all those packages are violating policy? On the other hand, there are merely 5 packages with compiled extensions, that are tied to the default python package only; two of these are the wx python bindings. The others are python-uno, python-plplot and python-nautilus. Note that python-qt, python-tk and python-gtk2 are all available in a 2.4 flavour. I am sorry if I stepped on toes somewhere here, I was merely asking you to reconsider your rejection to provide a python 2.4 version. Reasonings aside, there is a precedent in Debian to provide python extensions for both python versions in use. I am cc-ing debian-python on this; to the developers there: Ron feels it is against Debian policy to provide a python2.4 package for python-wxgtk2.6. I myself am confused, as there are plenty of other packages in Debian unstable that do just that. Martijn Pieters
