Debian sid. I installed kde4 (kde-standard metapackage). I start kdm,
and on the first run of kde4, kaboom does not run. I customized the
settings, turned on desktop effects, etc.

OK, I investigated a bit, and found the problem.
mesa-common-dev depends on libx11-dev
nvidia-glx-dev does not depend on libx11-dev
Both packages provide libgl-dev (either directly or indirectly) which
satisfies that dependancy.
