I suggest using KDM to fix the problem.
I used Synaptic and installed KDM and once installed you will get a
popup and you can select it as the Default DM.
REBOOT.
GAMES ARE FIXED.
Next do a purge on SDDM.
Everything works beautifully now. The lock screen is the same.

KDM doesn't require libsystemd0 and is mature even if it is 20 years
old.
I haven't tried a distro yet be it Debian,

That is likely the cause. I wouldn't be surprised if it would work if you also
had the testing repos in your /etc/apt/sources.list
