I also encountered this issue when opening any document that uses syntax highlighting following today's KF5 updates in testing. Upgrading kate and kate5-data from 15.08.1-1 to 15.08.2-1 from sid seems to have fixed it for me. -- Regards Ignacio R. Morelle
