Try the following:
1. start kmix from console
2. open "settings" (second item in main menu) -> "configure kmix" (last item in
settings menu).
3. close the dialog with any action

On a complete reinstall I checked more of the optional packages of KDE and now
I can lock the screen. So it's not a problem of kicker itself but of its
dependencies.
Reportbug gives me the exactly same set of packages and status of packages.

I configured kscreensaver to show a blank screen after some minutes and to lock
the screen a few seconds later. Neither happens.
I tried other themes but that didn't change anything. I
