Package: kdelibs5
Version: 4:4.4.3-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
Hello,
After upgrading to KDE 4.4 from Sid, login from KDM just return a wallpaper and
a mouse. The KDE startup progress bar is never shown. Nothing ever happens.
Invoking startx from the text mode terminal give the same result (so not a KDM
bug).
ps shows a few KDE processes that do start, but they are all sleeping:
kdeinit4, klauncher, kded4, kglobalaccel and knotify4.
xinit to xterm and then starting kwin and KDE applications manually does work
fine. 'startkde' does not seem to exist anymore, so I am not sure what is the
proper command, and I guess it would not work anyway.
Best regards,

If you don't keep an eye what apt-get/aptitude removes on upgrade, you should
not be using unstable. There are still a couple unresolved conflicts in
sid/experimental wrt new KDE 4.4 packages and apt simply chooses to remove
some packages to resolve them. Too bad that in your case important KDE core
got removed. Testing typically protects you from such situations. Anyway,
install kde-standard or a more minimal kde-plasma-desktop metapackage to
resolve this.
Btw, you can always find which package startkde or any other file is in using
search at http://packages.debian.org
