Hi, I had been experiencing this problem as well. The upstream commit b44f19d7038f7e6182db4d29aee39dab569193fd fixed it for me. (I applied it on the Debian phonon-4.6.0really4.4.1 sources and rebuilt the packages.)

I am also experiencing this problem. I used snapshot.debian.org to find a working version, and it works up through the last version of 4.4.0 (that is, 4.6.0really4.4.0-4). It starts failing to work at 4.6.0really4.4.1-1. My test was performed using Amarok from experimental (2.3.1~beta1-1).
