I agree with Tim Uckden's comments - we don't need bleeding edge, but we
also don't need
some-obscure-whizzo-package-on-104-obsolete-hardware-architectures.deb
holding up basic things like Apache, PHP, Perl, Mod_Perl, MySQL etc.
We would be over the moon to have a mini-stable that only
the need to run testing. The situation right now is that for
production you run an ancient system or cross your fingers, hold your
breath and run unstable.

The apache project has a full featured mail system called james. It's
written in Java and seems very full featured. The specs are impressive but
I haven't used it myself. You may want to check it out.

Has anyone any interesting comments about theses methods ?
There are also alternative languages like cyclone
http://www.research.att.com/projects/cyclone/ (which is based on C) and of
course you could use a high level anguage like pyton, perl, java, scheme etc.

portsentry can blackhole the scanner as
soon as it detects it with an IP chains rule. Once the user starts a scan
they will be immediately blackholed and will never even complete the scan.

I say there should be a firewall between the apps and the OS and between
the apps themselves. Installing an app should not break the OS or other apps.
