Re: configuring X

If you used the virtual consoles and follow your "startx" with a CTRL-ALT-F1 (or wherever you ran it), you'll see some error messages. Anyways, the quick fix is to (as root) do the following: # chmod 666 /dev/fb? That takes care of the problem. The reason why this is so was discussed on this l

glibc, X11 and the rest

1999-04-29 Thread Christian Meder
Hi, finally I caught up with normal life again; maybe slightly more noisy than before ;-) Ben is putting a lot of work in the glibc update and I'm glad that he took over the package compilation. Thanks. I read the glibc thread with interest and I've got just some random remarks: It's ok that the

configuring X

1999-04-29 Thread Max
What do I need to do to configure X on my SPARC 2? I'm used to having the xf86setup package on the Intel machines, but it doesn't seem like it's available for SPARC. I already figured out that I need to symlink /dev/mouse -> /dev/sunmouse, but when I type "startx", the screen goes blank and nothi

Graphical login (xdm?)

1999-04-29 Thread Alexander G. Carver \[Data\]
So it looks like xdm starts and gives me the nice, pretty graphical login. However, occasionally I want to jump out of that and go back to the text console. Is there a command to fall out of xdm and back to the text console?

ypbind fix?

1999-04-29 Thread Max
Has anyone been able to find a fix for the dreaded ypbind hang? From the mailing list archives, I understand that using either ypbind-3.3 or ypbind-mt-1.4 will solve the problem, but neither one is available in a Debian package. So, would the maintainer be willing to upgrade the nis package? If

SPARC/PPC appendix reviewers again

1999-04-29 Thread Ossama Othman
Hi, I should have mentioned a few more things with my last e-mail. The publisher is O'Reilly. I don't believe reviewers will be getting payed. However, O'Reilly will be donating $1000 to Debian. Again, if you respond to the list, please CC me since I am not subscribed. Thanks, -Ossama __

SPARC & PPC book reviewers needed

1999-04-29 Thread Ossama Othman
Hi, One of the publishers I am working with needs reviewers for their SPARC and LinuxPPC appendices in a book they are working on. Note that I don't think this book is Debian specific. It would be good if a reviewer could get some Debian specific stuff in there. :) If you you are interested then
