Hi,
I've just recently installed Debian on an old ELC and I can't get the meta
key to work. "setmetamode" reports "Strange mode for Meta key?" The
keyboard is correctly identified as a Type 5 during boot. Has anyone seen
this before?

I captured everything I could think of. homebrewed 2.2.13 from
ftp.kernel.org source tarball, everything running potato.
Known problem?
Oh yeah, it's the IPX.

This is normal. The -s option defines the payload

That's exactly what causes me to think that this behavior, regardless if
it is a bug or not, is SPARC-specific. As I've already written, that I've
not seen it behave like this on any other system on any other hardware
platform. Anyway - thaks for the information on
When invoking the ping program with the -s option the packet-size is set
to the option's value plus eight additional bytes. As I only found this
behavior on my SPARCstation LX running slink and there is no obvios sense
it causes me to think that it wasn't intended to behave this way -> bug.

Have you upgraded bash? The current bash package is quite broken and
looses the /bin/bash -> /bin/sh sym
This happened to me too. I found that somethign had removed
/bin/sh and everything else after that complained about
no such file or directory was really complaining there was no shell.

I'm running slink on a SPARCstation LX and trying to install some potato
packages on it. Some work but many can't be installed, dpkg outputs a
message saying "install-info: failed to lock dir for editing! No such
file or directory"
"dpkg: warning: old pre-removal script returned error exit
