I have solved a similar problem like:
1, set up a font server with ttf fonts somewhere in your network
2, set up X to use that fontserver
2, run xterm with one of theese fonts
On a 21" monitor at 1600x1200 pixels this is readable from 4m and it
covers most of the screen:
xterm -fn '-ttf
