yesterday i started digging into a new problem with the recent toolchain
in Debian/ubuntu and ended up with this:
https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=12822
The problem is reproducible in Debian sid too.
Up till now only gnome pkgs are using --as-needed (as far as i can tell at

Sorry, ignore that. The problem is with Blades, not Ultras.

Solved the problem just disabling creator ffb from Openboot via

I don't know what the U30 hardware is, but it may be the same as for
the U5, which I just posted about.

What you say below, except that I've seen something similar
interrupting an attempted boot of Solaris too, and the v210 does
reboot happily multiple times.

It doesn't work with the stock CDs. There is a specially-built one --
see http://wiki.debian.net/?SparcInstallationNotes> -- but it's
easiest to do a net boot if you can set up a rarp and tftp server.
You can also install from the Woody CD and upgrade from that.

Hi, what kind of USB card were you using in your Ultra 5? I tried a card
with a viao chipset that I had lying around, but the machine wouldn't
even boot up with that.

is any way to

I've downloaded the first debian installation cd (kernel 2.4.27) and
I get the same errors. I've also booted in rescue mode and I get:
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem).
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 00:00
