SPARC is particular about operand alignment. Getting it wrong causes
a bus error. This could be caused by a compiler bug, or by ill
advised forms of hand coded memory

False alarm: now that I can get that far, I can see that I seem to have
hard disk hardware problems.

After modifying the hw-detect list and having the installer try to find a
CD-ROM, here's the lsmod:

I just tried that, but the netboot image also seems to lack the SOCAL+
driver. I've actually built my own kernel and netbooted it too, but I'm
