OK, this are not computers for the pocket and cost money, but the SPARC
CPU's run more reliable as Intel (Itanium) or AMD (Opteron) CPU's.

Not true, since I must work with the biggest ammount of security.
My three Sun Blade (32 CPUs, 64 GByte of memory, 96 HDDs) are consuming
over 4 kW/hour and they are located in Paris/France, Offenburg/Germany
and Basel/Swiss.

$90 arm nslu2 comes to mind..
Currently I am tickering with a NSLU2 and some other arm7,
arm9 and mips to find the right machine for my need...
But unfortunatly they have no VGA out or the possibility
to put one of those highly compacted Video-Chips onto it.

I am running a SS10 SMP (512 MB of memory) with minimal installation
and fvwm. I think, for further Debian releases, sparc32 should drop
all memory consuming apps and I fully agree with you.
In general, I use my 2 of my 4 SS10 as buildd.

apt-get --install xdm- wdm
since "wdm" add automaticaly all windowmanagers to its list.
And there is a plus with wdm: It looks much nicer then xdm.
